Bone Marrow Transplant

Bone Marrow Transplantation (BMT, Hematopoietic Stem Cell Transplantation) is the transplantation of blood stem cells derived from the bone marrow or blood either of the patients themselves or their compatible related donors. Stem cell transplantation is a medical procedure in the fields of Hematology and Oncology, most often performed in patients with diseases of the blood, bone marrow, or certain types of cancer. Leukemia, Lymphoma, Thallasemia and other BMT indications are successfully treated by the BMT in Turkey.

The level of bone marrow transplantation in Turkish hospitals is one of the highest in the world – in both adults and children.

Each bone marrow donor candidate – either domestic or foreign – undergoes a strict medical and ethical inspection. Usually, foreign patients must come with their related donors – up to 4th degree relative, but there are exceptions. For example, if a patient who requires a bone marrow transplant is unable to find a suitable related donor at home, they may use the services of the Turkish National Donor Bank.
